Estonian ambassador presents credentials to Georgian president

TALLINN, Sep 19, BNS - The Estonian ambassador to Georgia, Toomas Lukk, on Thursday presented his credentials to Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.

The ambassador and the president reaffirmed the very good relations and cooperation between the two countries, with Saakashvili thanking Estonia for support, spokespeople for the Estonian Foreign Ministry said.

The Estonian ambassador emphasized the territorial integrity of Georgia and said that recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Osseetia had thus to be condemned.

"Russia also must abide by the six-point peace plan and immediately withdraw its troops from Georgia," he said.

Also spoken about during the meeting was Georgia's integration with international structures and development of relations with them, with Lukk confirming that Estonia continues to back giving Georgia a NATO Membership Action Plan.

He added that Estonia continues to be ready to share its reform experience and organize seminars for Georgian officials on topics that are of interest to them, such as integration with the EU.

Lukk, born in 1962, served as Estonia's ambassador to Latvia from 2002 to 2006 and headed after that the Foreign Ministry's office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
