Estonian formin does not rule out visa-free travel between EU, Russia
13.03.2008
MOSCOW, Mar 12, BNS - Implementation of visa-free travel between the European Union and Russia is not ruled out in the future, Estonia's foreign minister believes.
Starting talks over lifting the visa requirement could come under consideration in a few years' time provided the EU-Russia visa facilitation agreement that came into effect recently works well, Urmas Paet told the radio station Ekho Moskvy during a visit to Russia on Wednesday.
Possible visa-free travel between Estonia and Russia does not rest with Estonia alone and in this issue the whole EU is working together, the minister said.
"So, this is a decision that can only be made by all EU member states," Paet said.
The EU and Russia signed a visa facilitation and readmission deal in May 2006 and it took effect in June 2007.
