Estonia ranks 26th in world tourism competitiveness index

TALLINN, Mar 04, BNS - Estonia is the 26th most conducive environment for developing the travel and tourism industry, according to the second annual Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum.
Estonia had climbed two places compared with the 2007 report, in the table ranking 130 countries from around the globe.
In the three main categories examined, Estonia ranked 18th among the 130 economies with regard to both travel and tourism regulatory framework and travel and tourism business environment and infrastructure. It trailed in place 49 in terms of human, cultural and natural resources for travel and tourism.
Estonia's southern Baltic neighbor Latvia placed 45th overall and Lithuania 47th.
Switzerland, Austria and Germany were ranked as the most competitive environments for developing of the travel and tourism industry. Australia, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, Canada and France completed the top-10 list.
This year's report, under the theme Balancing Economic Development and Environmental Sustainability, placed a particular focus on this issue.
