Estonia's Ergma sends congratulations to chairman of Kosovo parliament

TALLINN, Feb 22, BNS - Speaker of the Estonian parliament Ene Ergma has sent a message of congratulation to the chairman of the parliament of Kosovo, Jakup Krasniq, in connection with the adoption of the declaration on Kosovo's independence.
Ergma offered sincere congratulations on behalf of the Riigikogu and herself to the speaker of the Kosovo parliament and the people of Kosovo on the adoption of the independence declaration.
"I hope that bilateral relations between our parliaments will evolve into close and fruitful cooperation," Ergma said. "I wish you success and consistency on your chosen path toward freedom and democracy," she added.
Kosovo declared its independence on Sunday. Estonia recognized the independence of the former province of Serbia on Thursday.
By Friday afternoon 17 countries had recognized the independence of Kosovo, with several dozen more having promised to do so in the coming few days.
Nineteen countries have declared that they will not recognize Kosovo as an independent state. Along with Serbia and its key ally Russia, these countries include EU members Spain, Cyprus, Slovakia and Romania.
