Having been born on one of a series of small islands smaller than the average city neighborhood, Estonian sculptor and designer Anne Rudanovsky grew up wandering the natural landscapes of this unique environment. The craggy, stark lines, and sense of isolation of her native place are echoed in many of her bronzes. Groups of figures balance on raised islands in some of Rudanovsky's works. Other pieces explore the soft, rounded lines of nature, or, in her stone sculpture, an almost voluptuous modulation of the light. The surprises of shape and line in the pieces give even the smallest of Rudanovsky's sculptures a kind of monumental quality. The eye is drawn beyond the surface and into the intricacies of the negative spaces that give the surface its power. Anne Rudanovsky's work has been exhibited and won awards in various venues around the Tartu region of her native Estonia.
